About this project

We are life-centered designers collaborating to weave Biomimicry’s Life’s Principles into the Design Thinking process.

Our Field Journal shares case studies in biomimicry, observations of Life’s Principles in action, examples of nature’s genius design solutions, interviews with designers who integrate nature into their practice (coming soon!), and our own visionary concepts for the future.

We share these insights and resources with the hope that they spark ideas, support your creative journey, and bring meaningful value to your work—whether you’re a designer, student, or simply a curious mind drawn to nature’s wisdom.

Inter-twined was born from our shared belief that designers can learn as much from the natural world as we can from human (or user) experience. Agota, an educator and biomimicry expert with formal training in both biomimicry and industrial design, provides the foundation for translating natural patterns into design principles. Treasure, an award-winning industrial designer with deep experience in human-centered and functional design, brings personal perspective through a health journey that has sparked a transformation in how design can support human well-being.

Together, we created inter-twined to explore the intersection of biomimicry, art, and industrial design—building projects, tools, and resources that educate, inspire, and help solve real-world challenges.

FAQs

  • Biomimicry is a scientific discipline that draws inspiration from nature’s forms, processes, and ecosystems to solve human problems in a sustainable way.

  • Life's Principles or LPs are set of design lessons from nature, based on the recognition that Life on Earth is interconnected and interdependent.

Biomimicry outlines 27 Principles, which are grouped under six overarching themes such as "Evolve to Survive" and "Be Resource Efficient". These principles are strategies observed in nature for creating conditions conducive to life, serving as guidelines for designing sustainable and regenerative human systems by emulating nature's successful patterns and processes.

  • This is a great question and underlines the basis of this project. Please follow our journey as we explore the intertwining of nature and design. We are just getting started!
